DarTU Council

The Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU) Council is the principal overall policy-making organ of the University including the University constituent and connected colleges, and, for general academic policy related matters only. Subject to the Universities Act, No. 7 of 2005 and Regulations made thereunder, the governance, control and administration of the University is vested in the Council. The detailed functions and powers of the Council are stipulated in the University Charter.

The composition of the Council is provided  in the Charter and it reflects the various sectors of society which have stake in the institution. The members of the Council, who have additional attributes, including integrity, interest in higher education related matters and experience, have been drawn from various sectors and professions. Their skills set and experience in higher education matters enable them to make meaningful contribution to the deliberations of the Council and furtherance of the objectives, functions and powers of the University

In undertaking its oversight role, the Council is assisted by committees which are charged with distinct roles for advising the former. The committees of the Council include the Audit and Risk Committee; Human Resources Management Committee; Planning, Finance, Development and Resource Management Committee; and the Students Affairs and Services Committee.
